OBJECTIVES

UMRAN is the annual seminar conducted by the Department of Landscape Architecture, Kulliyyah Architecture and Environmental Design, IIUM. UMRAN is a concept that has been applied by Ibn Khaldun to world civilization. Umran is not a static product but a process that is "dynamic" and in accordance with theories of modern social science.

To provide a platform for discussion and knowledge sharing on the current development and environmental issues, application of current technology in built environment, and the roles of mankind in the built environment.

To disseminate the findings of research conducted by the students registered for the ALA 3202 Topical Studies course in a seminar organized under the ALA 3211 Landscape Seminar course.

To provide a platform for oral presentation of research in Built Environment where upon acceptance, the manuscript will be published in the JAPCM (Journal of Architecture, Planning and Construction Management) by the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design

“CONVERGING SUSTAINABLE IDEOLOGIES”

Bringing forth together with the comprehensive perception of life and reality with the different scope of works in the built environment. It is a framework that considers the resilience of present and future living condition. Hence, the concept is to create a platform in showcasing this divergent work as one doctrine. 

SUB THEMES :

Sustainable Environment

The physical environment that can be maintained the attributes and valuable qualities. The aspect that involved are ecosystem services, quality of urban environment, natural beauty, species and ecological communities and value from physical resources.

Applied Technology

The application of ecological knowledge to address environmental challenges. It is a study the distribution, abundance, and interactions among organisms as well as the ways in which organisms influence the movement of energy and materials through ecosystems.

Feasible Design

Defined by a set of design variables that can be used in analyzing the design. A feasible design is one where all the constraint functions are satisfied.  The optimum design is a feasible solution that represents the design with the best objective function value.

People and Placemaking

A collaborative process by which it can shape the public realm in order to maximise shared value. More than just promoting better urban design, Place-making facilitates creative patterns of use, paying particular attention to the physical, cultural, and social identities that define a place and support its ongoing evolution.

Inclusive Culture

An inclusive culture involves the full and successful integration of diverse people into a workplace or industry. While an inclusive culture certainly encompasses a commitment to workplace diversity.
